Overview:
This touch screen kiosk is permanently installed at the Woodland park Zoo in Seattle, Washington. A second version of the kiosk travels to schools and events promoting the dairy farmers of Washington. The display contains over an hour of digital video footage, displayed in the center of each screen, with sections covering nutrition, a day in the life of a dairy farmer, bovine body language, cows in history, current dairy news shorts, and a 21 question quiz. Each section . The latest version of the Kowosk has been pressed to 3000 CD ROMs for use with Mac OS and Windows 95.
Project Highlights:
This project is a shining example of how closely digital video and traditional computer generated art can coexist on one screen. All video sections were edited digitally and optimized for best playback on a variety of delivery platforms. QuickTime was used for much of the interface animations, blurring the line between video and graphic design. Special consideration for touch screen interfaces were employed to protect the Kowosk against "full palm screen slapping" and manure dust from the nearby animal enclosure.
AWARDS:
Gold Medal, Interactive Category, at the New York Film Festival 1997
